It’s a wrap

I feel as if I’ve been in the festive mood for several weeks now. The Penshurst Vintage Christmas Fair at the beginning of last month was a huge success. Thank you to all of you who came along and supported all the great sellers. Following that, I assisted my daughter (www.bethanygracephotographs.com) with her Christmas family photoshoots. We used a combination of seasonal decorations and vintage homewares to create a cosy Christmas scene inside a rustic barn. We had enough space to offer various seating arrangements - faux fur rugs, rocking chairs and a beautiful deep red Chesterfield sofa.   My dear mother was always saying to me “You mustn’t wish your life away!” As child I would be continuously be looking forward to certain events like school holidays, my birthday or Christmas! Now the older I get, the more" time flies" and I’m always wishing there were more days in a week! I’m currently writing this surrounded by bags of stock as I am preparing for the wonderful Penshurst Vintage Christmas Fair on Saturday. It's renowned for stunning displays and I really enjoy curating a special festive themed stall. I have just 2 days to get all my treasures priced and work out how to fit all the bags and boxes in Mabel (my little Fiat 500). In family news my son and his wife are expecting their first baby...

The Circle Of Life

Hello and welcome to my first blog of 2024. It’s been a very sad start to the year for me as I had to say goodbye to two of my beloved dogs - Ralph in January and Woody in February. Although it is heartbreaking that they are no longer with me and I miss them so much, I’m very grateful that they were part of my family for so long (13 and 15 years respectively). I still have my little terrier Gilly (who is 4) and my beautiful cats Boots and Boo but  it really does seem like the end of an era now the two old boys have gone. Today is Christmas Eve and my favourite day of the year! However old you are the 24th December always seems to have a feeling of magical anticipation about it. All the cards have been delivered, the presents wrapped and the decorations up! This year my husband and I have been invited to my son’s house for Christmas dinner so I am feeling rather relaxed today. I’d usually be preparing veg and making desserts but instead I’m looking forward to watching a good Christmas movie and opening a box of chocolates!   This year I have both a real and an artificial tree. Welcome to my first blog of 2023. Spring is fast approaching, the season of “new beginnings", and it is the perfect time to plan ahead for the busy warmer months. In March I like to make a “to do” list of jobs in the garden and start to fill up my calendar with vintage treasure hunting trips and holidays to Cornwall. Summer Celebrations

Well it definitely has been a long hot summer - especially here in Kent! The season started off with the wonderful Platinum Jubilee celebrations. I must admit to being a royal fan. I love the history and traditions of the monarchy and have acquired quite a collection of coronation and jubilee mugs dating back to Queen Victoria! To mark the occasion I added corgi print cushions and Union Jack dog collars to the “Vintage Dawn” range.   Then this month we had our own family celebrations. Hello and welcome to my first blog of 2022. Marvellous May is upon us and the gardens are suddenly full of colour, the days are becoming warmer and it is time once again to find my flip flops! Spring always puts me in the mood to have a good sort out, re-think and plan ahead.   During lockdown my business had to adapt. Fairs were cancelled and the local craft shop I supply had to close.My on-line Etsy shop suddenly became my sole selling outlet. Happy Christmas!

I have finally wrapped the last present, I’ve delivered all my cards and I’ve made the traditional Christmas tree cake with my eldest grandson (who is 4). So today I can really enjoy the magical day that is Christmas Eve!    If you read my blog last year (thank you for sticking with me!) you will know that today is my favourite day of the year. The calm before the whirlwind of Christmas Day. The day for opening those special biscuits, lighting a scented candle and sitting down in front of a wonderful Christmas film.
