Merry Christmas

Today is Christmas Eve, my favourite day of the year! It is the day when all the cards have been delivered, all the presents have been wrapped, the chocolate tin is full  and the fridge is bursting with mouth watering delights. It is a day full of expectation, anticipation and excitement for tomorrow.

It is also the day when for many years I helped out with our local church nativity puppet show. This involved receiving a hastily written script a few days before, one dress rehearsal at 1pm and a main performance at 4pm in front of packed pews of over excited children and their parents. Behind the curtain we (the narrators and puppeteers) threw ourselves into delivering the Christmas story with a mixture of carols, pantomime banter and irreverent jokes.   There was always some hilarious ad-libbing and sound system problems but everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it became a special part of Christmas in Leybourne. It was usually all finished by 5pm and as everyone left the church they were treated to wonderful scene. The house opposite always has an amazing display of Christmas lights but on Christmas Eve a snow machine appears in the garden and festive music is played. Walking home from the church past this house always made me feel there really was magic in the air on Christmas Eve.

Sadly this year, like so many other plans and events, the show has had to be cancelled. Families are having to have separate celebrations and life has become very restricted due to the continuing pandemic. I believe we can still create our own magic by showing care and consideration to others and helping out where we can in these difficult times.

I am lucky to have been in lockdown with my husband, 2 cats, 3 dogs and my sewing machine! I have had plenty of time for sewing and been able to keep my Etsy shop well stocked. The last two months have been my busiest ever and I would like to say a big thank you to all of those who have supported my small business – it really does mean so much to me! I have lots of new and exciting designs to share with you in the New Year so please watch this space!

Wishing you all a joyous Christmas and a safe and happy new year,

x
